Winter Wonderland Card

It's 5:49 a.m. here and instead of sleeping I'm posting on my blog. Hate it when I wake up early and cannot get back to sleep. We had such a busy day yesterday, and a lot of fresh air and sun, so I thought I'd be sleeping in, not getting up at 5:30! We had a belated birthday party for our youngest grandson yesterday and it was so much fun. We met at a park that was convenient for everyone and had a BBQ lunch and enjoyed the rest of the park. Here's a picture of the birthday boy.
Isn't he a sweetie! Love those long curls. It will be hard to imagine cutting them off some day. His dad has long hair, as does one other son-in-law and two other grandsons...the other grandson has a brush cut - to each their own in our family!

Here's a picture of Joe and I with the three youngest grandsons. The other two grandchildren didn't make it to the party. Finn loved the train Grampa picked out for him for his birthday present and carried it with him all day.

By the time we got home last night and washed all the dishes - we do not do the paper plate into the garbage thing! - and got the pictures uploaded I was way too tired to think about posting anything. But, seeing as I'm awake this early in the morning, I figured now was a good time to post what I meant to do yesterday. "Always playing with paper" has a challenge each week on their blog to make a Christmas card. Here's mine for this week -

They don't usually post a sketch that has to be followed but this time she posted a sketch from another blog I happen to follow, http://www.freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com,/ so I used it - sort of. I turned their sketch on it's side so I could use these trees. First the trees were stamped on white cardstock with black Archival ink. Then I used a VersaMark pen and pounced VersaMark ink over the trees and little dots in the sky and embossed it with white embossing powder. Then it was die cut with a Spellbinder's rectangle die and while still in the die I sponged Broken China (my favorite) Distress Ink over the entire piece. It was then adhered to a piece of blue cardstock which was adhered to white cardstock that was run thru the Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dot embossing folder. I stamped the snowflake on another piece of the blue cardstock and embossed it in white and cut it out and added it with pop-up dots for dimension. The ribbon was added before I glued the entire thing to the blue card base. Then a peel-and-stick sentiment was added, along with some silver snowflakes here and there and a gem in the centre of the snowflake.

One more Christmas card done! Love doing these early!

  3. Pretty card Violet! I love how you embossed "snow" with a Versamark marker. I think I have a marker somewhere, I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for sharing at Freshly Made Sketches!
