A Rescued Card

 

I’m back again with a ‘What should I do next” card to share. I had found a free download on the Internet of an old Singer sewing machine and decided to print it out and make it into a card. Unfortunately, I forgot to hit ‘print to size” and my printer cut some of it off. Grrr. I hated to throw it out so after looking at it for awhile I decided to cut out the sewing machine part and go from there. Here is the result.

Besides the sewing machine, I also hand cut some flowers and buttons and the spool of thread from other parts of the card. I found this pretty background paper in my stash and inked the edges in pink to pick up the pink in the flowers. It was mounted on a 4.25x.5.5 card base. The sewing machine was added with dimensional dots and strips. Then the flowers, buttons and spool were added; some flat, some on dimensional dots. I found the sentiment in my stash of odds and ends; inked the edges in the same pink and added it with dimensional dots as well.

As I belong to the local quilt guild, this card will come in handy.

A Repurposed Card

 So hot and humid here it’s ridiculous! I swear it’s like walking into a furnace if you go outside - around 100F and not a breath of air. More thunderstorms expected as well.

I know some card makers have a favourite type of card they make - multi-layers, mixed media, clean and simple, quick and easy, etc. I do not have a favourite and I make what ever appeals to me that particular day. Today’s card would be considered clean and simple maybe or quick and easy? Not sure what category it would fall into but here is.

 

The flowers are from a greeting card that I repurposed. The two small butterlfies were part of the design. I die cut the frame and placed it over the greeting card to get the best interesting part and then hand cut the card to fit under the frame. It was then glued to a white card base. The larger butterfly was up higher in the card so I hand cut it and glued it partly over the frame and partly on the focal image just to add some interest. The sentiment is a gold peel-off.

Life and a Card

 It’s been quite a couple of weeks! Joe came down with a cold - the first he’s had in about 5 years - and it took almost two weeks to totally resolve itself….luckily he didn’t share it with me! I had a tooth that was extremely sensitive to cold so I went to the dentist. Of course my dentist was on holidays but I was able to be seen by a newly licensed dentist who advised me that I was either looking at having a root canal or a tooth extraction which had to be determined by a specialist in Windsor. Oh boy! 

Then I had an acupuncture appointment which went okay but I also had to go have my toe nails cut. My back is fused about 1/3 way up from my waist so bending is not easy. This time I had another apprentice cut them and she dug a little too deep in the sides of the big toe - yup, infected! And the weather has been its normal unpredictable self as well. Yesterday the sun was shining - 15 minutes later we had a snow shower which lasted about 5 minutes - back to sun again. So weird. 

Tomorrow is the big eclipse here in Ontario. I have our glasses ready to view it - unless we are under cloud cover! So, yeah, its been a weird couple of weeks! But I do have a card to share. Oh, by the way, my card on Scrapbook and Cards today did not make it to the second round. But I thank all of you who voted for it.

                                           
A friend gave me a bag of greeting card fronts that she had received. One of them had these pretty cupcakes on but they were spread out across the card. I decided to fussy cut each one and remake the entire card. I love doing this. The background is from a 6” pack and I think this is the last paper in it. So it was cut down to 5.25 inches to fit on a 5.5 card base. I added the strips and stamped the sentiment on the purple one. Then the two cupcakes on the outside were glued flat and the one in the middle was added with dimensional tape.

Something old is new again

     I’m back! It’s been a very crazy, busy week. The weather here is still changing every day, sometimes every few hours. We’ve had more freezing rain than I can ever remember; two were large storms; others were minor. They are predicting another huge snow storm for Friday so I guess winter is not over yet.

    Today I’m posting a quick and simple card, repurposed as well,  but one I really like how it turned out.

                               

Most parts of this card came from other greeting cards. The background is from an old card that had these lovely colours already printed on so all I had to do was cut it down to fit on an A2 card base. The flower also came from another card so I cut it into a rectangle and mounted it on the glitter paper. The sentiment as die cut from the same glitter paper. So pretty. Sometimes its nice make something new from something old!

Recycled New Card

 This is the last day of hot and humid weather - at least for awhile. It felt like over 100F today but overnight and tomorrow it will be plummet to half that! This has been the weirdest weather all year!

Several friends drop off their greeting cards to me. I used to avoid using the front and pretty much just used the sentiments but then I realized I was wasting the best part. Now I love to recycle these old greeting cards. They never look anything like the original - but that’s the point really.

Here’s one of my favourites.

                             

This image was just part of the overall design of the card. I die cut it square and the maroon is from the back of the card. Slim silver peel-off strips were added around the small square and then silver corner peel-offs were added. Silver peel-off dots were added to the centres of the flowers. They don’t show up very well in the photo but in real life they sparkle.

    The word was die cut from the left over maroon. The card ended up almost 4.5” square. I didn’t have any envelopes that size so I used my envelope maker to make one.

A Recycled Card

 Today’s card is all about recycling. A lot of my friends give me the greeting cards they have received - some are several years old and some are from overseas, which is really nice because they are huge and so pretty. Some of the greeting cards from England are about 7” x 9 “.  Some I can reuse and some go into the recycle box. Today’s card was made from an old greeting card….but you wouldn’t know it. It looks like an image popped out of a kit. The key is fussy cutting!

                                               

    Yes, I hand cut all those flowers including the areas in between - that’s what make it look like it came that way. The key is to cut those small areas first, not last. By cutting them out first you have more of the image to hold on to to keep it from shifting.  Once everything is hand cut, hot pink ink was sponged around each flower petal. That covers up any missed areas and makes them more uniform. Sometimes I use a black pen around the edges but it depends on the image. Then it was glued to the background and then onto the card base. The sentiment is a peel-off. Small silver dots from a peel-off sheet were added to the centres of each flower. These small dots are the left over pieces from fancy peel-offs - I use every bit of the peel-offs I can. It takes awhile to lift those tiny dots off the peel-off page and onto the card but I think its worth it.

A Quick and Easy Card

 

We had more rain today than all month and its been a rainy July! It absolutely poured, for hours. We were without power for over an hour too. It’s supposed to stop raining sometime tomorrow morning and we should have a couple of nice days before it starts again.

 Today’s card is a quick and easy card but I quite like how it turned out.

                               

This is another repurposed card. The original card was quite large, like 6x8. I think it came from England as several a lady gave me came from there. However, I just liked this one portion of it so I cut it down to 4 x 5.25 so it would fit on a standard card base. The ribbon banner came from another card and the ribbon was from my stash. It was wrapped around the card front before gluing it to the card base, which migrates from blue to mauve which suited this card. I added the sticker of the bee and Stickles to the centres of the flowers.

Love Birds

 We are still experiencing a heat wave here in Ontario - hot and humid. The most often expressed statement is: “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity”. You hear people saying that most of the summer.

Today’s card is another repurposed one. I absolutely could not toss the original card in the recycle bin…..it needed to be given a new life.

 

 

The circle of birds is what was part of the original card. It was die cut with a Spellbinder’s die. I used the background from another card for the background for this card. Once the circle was glued on, scalloped silver peel-off lines were added, including one silver peel-off tiny flower. After I posted this, several other tiny flowers were added. The sentiment is also a peel-off. The ribbon came from yet another card and it just happened to match perfectly.

Repurpose, Reuse

      Well the tipsy-topsy weather continues. A/C was on and then last week we had to turn the A/C off and the furnace back on. We cannot ever remember having to switch back to heat after turning the A/C on. Then we were able to turn the heat off and open windows - nice couple of days. It started raining this afternoon and is expected to rain most of the night and tomorrow. Friday the temperatures start rising and Saturday on for over a week it will be over 90F. We managed to get the grass cut and some weeding done this morning so we don’t have to cut grass when its hot and humid next week. The A/C is still off but it will obviously be going back on by Friday.

    I did manage to get some cards made last week as well. Here is one of them.

                               

     A friend gave me a bag of old greeting cards. This bird panel was part of one. It was so pretty I had to find a way to repurpose it. So, I cut it down and glued it to the brown striped card base. Then the gold peel-off sentiment was added and then the gold stripe along the left edge. I was going to add more to it but changed my mind. I liked it just as it is. Sometimes less is more.
