A Baby Girl Card

          This is the last nice day for a while. More snow is expected tonight and all day tomorrow. Well it is the middle of February in Canada so I guess this should not be a surprise!....annoying but not a surprise.

          Today’s card is the baby girl card made from the same die set as the baby boy card I posted on Monday.

 

           The background on this one was cut down from a 12” x 12” patterned paper. I try not to cut down full size sheets for cards but I happened to get three packages of baby paper from the thrift store and this pattern was in all of them so I made the exception. The die cut clothes and bear were sponged with pink die. The die was placed over the shoes and bear to sponge on where necessary. I knew I wanted to put some die cut flowers at the end of the clothesline so this time I cut the line close to the end and strung the clothes on – so much easier than the way I did it on the boy’s card. The clothes were arranged and then glued in place.  The flowers have a lot of Wink of Stella on them to make them shimmer. The fancy yarn that has small sequins on it came from the dollar store. I wrapped them around and then added the little tag with a peel-off sentiment. It was then all glued to a pink card base.

A Baby Boy Card

          We had a very snowy and rainy but rather mild weekend. The snow quickly melted on the roads and driveways but stayed on the lawns. It’s much colder east and north of here though. My daughter lives near Ottawa and it was -28C overnight. Brrrr. I’ll stay here in Southwestern Ontario.

          I decided to make a baby card with a new die set I bought from Aliexpress. It was so much fun I made one for a baby girl as well. Here is the baby boy card. 

The die set is all the clothes, the bear and the clothesline. Once they were die cut I quickly sponged blue ink over them, keeping it darker near the edge. The only one with extra very small bits is the bear’s face…even the eyes were die cut. I placed the die over the die cut bear and sponged light brown over the paws and ears – wish I had used darker blue like I did on the shoes now but it’s okay. The paper is all from the stash. The top piece was one piece left over from another card so I just taped it to the blue one. To hide the seam I picked off each of those white scallops from a peel-off and glued them against the seam…only took a few minutes and it used up some left over peel-off bits. I cut a slice in each hanger to hook it on the clothesline but I found that rather bothersome – they kept coming off. I did it differently when I made the girl’s card which was much better….to be posted on Wednesday. Once it was all glued together and glued to the card base, I die cut the sentiment twice; glued them together to make them thicker; and then glued it over the card.

A Baby Card

            That was the shortest spring on record….yup, back to very cool weather….cold according to Joe….we’re lucky if breaks 40F today. We will be having cold and days ahead as well. Oh well, more time to do some quilting and card making.

        I had very few stamps and no dies to make baby cards so I splurged and bought these sets from Aliexpress.

 

        The card looks dark and washed out in this picture because the lighting was so bad and I didn’t notice how bad it looked until after I put everything away. Oh well, you can get the idea and you will have to trust me that it looks better in real life. I wanted a non-gender baby card so this is what I came up with.

The paper is from two different paper packs and they are mounted on a standard yellow card base with a gold peel-off over the seam.  The stork was die cut out of white and I sponged a little Distress Ink Weathered Wood around it, which doesn’t show in the photo. The legs and beak were die cut out of dark yellow. The baby and the bag were die cut from white and colour was sponged on. I glued a piece of black behind the baby’s face so the eyes would show up. The stork and baby are adhered with dimensional glue strips. Before cutting out the BABY I took a grunge stamp and dark yellow ink and stamped it over the piece of yellow cardstock just to give it a little more interest.

        It turned out okay so I think I’ll use the stork and baby dies a lot more in the future.

New Baby Girl Card

This day has just flown by. I had to go get some routine blood work done this morning – 45 minute wait and because I had to fast for the test, I was pretty darn hungry by the time I got back home. I’m a breakfast eater and I don’t like being late for it either. Actually, I’m a breakfast, lunch and supper eater which brings me to the next statement. After our late breakfast we went and got groceries. Man, our grocery bill gets higher and higher and contrary to what people think, being a vegetarian is not cheaper! Luckily I love to experiment with recipes so I can transfer meat recipes into vegetarian now without much trouble but it’s still darn expensive to eat. But then again, I am also grateful we live in a country with plenty of food at our disposal - and the money to buy it. Sometimes I have to give myself a mental slap as a reminder of how good we have it.

Tonight is our annual Christmas get-together for our Quilt Guild and the last meeting for the year. I’m looking forward to having a good time tonight. We just do a tea and coffee with small appetizers and desert thing…no big sit down meal anymore....and a program of course. We are having a trunk show tonight. I don’t like sweet things so I’m bring fresh fruit as my desert offering.

Today’s card turned out okay for an experiment with a roller stamp.

 

I took the Stampin’ Up roller stamp of the onesies, inked it with Versamark and then black ink and rolled it across a piece of white cardstock and heat embossed it. then I coloured each one (Tombow) and cut them out. Then I carefully ran a black ink pad around the edges to redefine them. I die cut the fancy ovals with a Spellbinder’s die and layered them together and then added the onesie. The label with the sentiment is popped up with dimensional glue dots. The background paper is from an old set from Paper Wishes (Hot off the Press) and was glued to a hot pink card base. Then all I had to do was add the bow which came from the shoe factory of all places.

Welcome Baby Cards

As I was laying in bed last night I was thinking of my blog and for the life of me I couldn't remember what I posted that day. Finally it hit me, I didn't post anything so that's why I couldn't remember it. Oh boy! This is such a busy time of the year that I'm easily distracted. I do recall sitting down at the computer late in the afternoon with every intention of posting a card but obviously got interrupted and never went back to it. So, today I'm posting two cards - that I actually meant to post yesterday. They are so much alike I just have to do them both on the same day.

Here's the first one.

I started out with a piece of watercolour paper and sponged some distress ink on it, leaving the centre very light, and the edges very dark. Then I stamped this cute little bear from Hot off the Press (Paper Wishes). The bear, stars and the sentiment are all one set for .99. Yes, .99 cents. I love these little stamps. Anyway, after stamping the images, I coloured the bear with Tombow markers and Dove blending pen...or the Stampin' Up one, which ever one I grabbed first. I scratched the marker on a piece of plastic and then picked up the colour with the blending pen. I have much more control over the colour this way and I can shade better. After the colouring was done I simply backed it onto a piece of pink cardstock that was run thru the Cuttlebug with the Spellbinder's scalloped rectangle die. I had a pink card base so I just added the background paper to it and then another piece of the sticky back fancy ribbon, and then the main image.

I liked it so much I made a blue one.



Same techniques but this time I doubled the scalloped rectangles for a wee bit of a different look and because I was putting no ribbon on this one.

I may try some bigger dies, like swirls and dots, etc. to see how they turn out. Stay posted. I'll let you know.
