Hybrid Scrapbooking Layout

It was sunny but a cool wind kept the temperatures down today. We had a fellow come in to put a new post in fence this afternoon. We thought the wind had just loosened one fence post but it turned out it was rotten right where it was cemented in.  We were glad it was an easy fix as the house next door is empty right now and there is no way the owner would help pay for entire new fence.

I’m still fighting the virus but I’m a wee bit better today so hopefully it will leave quite quickly now. Here is a hybrid scrapbook layout I managed to make just before I got sick. Sorry about the camera glare on the right side. I must find another way to photograph these.

The photos were inserted into an 8” square Scrapbook Etc. Photoshop template. It is actually a 12” square but I changed the size in Photoshop as I cannot print 12” pages at home. These templates are still available even though the magazine folded.  The photo was adhered to a piece of red cardstock that I tore the edges of instead of trimming it neatly. I really like to do that on pages featuring the boys. A strip of the same red paper was cut ½” and added across the bottom of the photo layout which seems to help ground the photos.  The background paper picked up the colours of his T-shirt and the playground equipment but it was a bit too much for my liking so I added a piece of 8 ½” x 11” piece of muted blue paper on an angle and cut off the edges. This toned down the stripes and grounded the photos even more.

Instead of a large title I decided to do a vertical strip of small words. This is a good way to use up those small tags that come with paper packs. First I wrapped a blue, white and red string around the page and taped them to the back. Then I chose the words and laid them out in the order I wanted them. They were attached with dimensional glue dots or strips. I chose to add one to the far right. That way when you read down the list, your eye goes immediately to the tag on the right and then back up to the start…..the old invisible triangle trick…..at least my eyes did so I hope yours did as well.

That’s all for a sunny but cool Wednesday, April 12, 2017.

Cheers

Violet
