Leaping Deer Card

First of all, let me explain why I had to change the comment section. I love the comments that people leave, well, most of them! For the last week or 10 days I have had numerous spam comments and I finally realized it was not going to end so I changed the settings so I can monitor the comments before they are posted, instead of having to go in and delete each one separately. So, if you are a "real person" and not a scammer, please feel free to leave a comment and I promise it will get posted.

I haven't made any Christmas cards lately - so there goes another resolution to make one a week! But I made up for it a bit my making four the other day. I decided to enter the challenge at www.alwaysplayingwithpaper.blogspot.ca and used their sketch to make my Christmas card. Those are the only rules, follow the sketch and it has to be a Christmas card. I bought the Tim Holtz leaping reindeer die in February but never used it and decided it was time!

It was a very simple sketch, two different coloured paper cut on a wavy curve with an image on top. I used paper from the stash, cut the two colours together so they would be easy to put back together. I taped them across the back and mounted them on black cardstock and then on the background paper that covered the card front. The deer was cut from a left over piece of heavily embossed and glittered paper but it was rather blah looking on the card so I got out "All Purpose Ink" in Vegas Gold ink and dabbed it over the top. Nice, but still too blah! So, I cut out another deer in black and glued the gold one to the black one off-side so it looks like a shadow. Now I like it. The gold sentiment is a peel-and-stick. The little snowflake dots are also peel-and-stick. I made two the same except the other one has a different sentiment but because they were the same, I'm only posting one.

But the die set has two deer. One leaping, one standing. And, I had more of the same paper left over so I decided to use it up and cut out two more pieces. Here's the standing deer.

Exactly the same process. But I had two more pieces of the two wavy cut paper and didn't want to waste them so I made another card but decided to go with a silver deer.

I had run out of the blue background paper but I found this in the stash and it looked great with the silver deer. Actually it turns out the ink was called Platinum not silver and I think I was a little heavy handed with it and it was pretty bright. Simple solution to tone it down - rub some Broken China Distress Ink over it. You can't see it in in the photo but the blue ink hit the embossed areas and it is very pretty in real life.  This deer has a very tiny silver eye. I used a tiny punch to punch out a piece of left over peel-and-stick and it looked great. I tried it on the gold ones and hated it. I love experimenting! I did a lot of experimenting this week and came up with some very different cards!
