Well we
survived yet another stormy weekend. So glad we got our bike ride in on Friday
when the weather was nice because Saturday was looking like it was going to be rainy
day. So, we opted to make a picnic lunch and head up the St. Clair River and
then on into Sarnia by the Blue Water Bridge. Things were going well at first and
then the dark clouds came and we drove through a terrible thunderstorm and we
thought we would be eating our lunch in the car and then returning home.
However, about 10 miles up the road it hadn’t even rained so we pulled into one
of the many small parks along the river and had our lunch and watched a fellow
kiting. In case you don’t know what kiting is here is a picture I took of him.
They stand on a small board, similiar to a small surf board, and hang on to a handle attached to the kite. He was doing flips and other tricks as well. Here's a closer view.
Yes, airborne! He was out there going back and forth for almost an hour when we left but his budddy showed up as we were leaving and said the guy stays out for 2 or 3 hours some days.
The rest of
the day was sunny and hot and we went for an hour and half walk through the
woods at Canatera
Park. Sunday was washed
out!!! It rained hard and some areas near us had such strong winds they lost
power. Ours flickered a couple of times but stayed on.
So, that was
my wet weekend. Today was cloudy and there was a chance of rain but so far, so
good. Tomorrow and Wednesday – yup, chances for more thunderstorms. And the coming
weekend, yup, thunderstorms predicted. What a summer. The good news is our air
conditioner has only been on five or six times all summer. The bad news is, it’s
been quite cool and it does not feel like summer most days, like today. With the cool wind, it's barely in the 60F range.
More good
news to share. My blogging friend Deb, over at www.learningtojustbreathe.blogspot.com
had a draw for a print of some of her art work and she drew my name! Nice. She
is a wonderful artist and very creative crafter so be sure to go check out her
blog.
I did manage
to get some crafting in including two more scrapbook layout pages yesterday
while listening to the thunder. At least down in the lower studio (aka the
basement) I can’t see the lightening flashing. Here is a card I made using a
butterfly stamp my friend gave me.
I love this
stamp! The background paper is a piece from the stash and it wasn’t quite large
enough to cover the card base so I added the brown strip. I wanted the gold
stickers in the corners but I knew they would not show up very well on their
own so I backed them with a piece of the same brown as the strip along the
bottom and then glued the brown on. The butterfly itself was coloured with a
few colours of Distress Inks and then Walnut Stain Distress ink was sponged
around the edges. Only the middle of the butterfly is glued down and it’s on
dimensional glue dots so the butterfly wings are loose. The sentiment is
another sticker, possibly from Paper Wishes. They call them Dazzles but I buy
them at our local scrapbook store as well from other manufacturers.
That’s all
for a Monday,
Cheers
Violet
