We
are indeed having a blizzard. I just knew that the mild winter was just a bad
joke and Mother Nature was going to have the last laugh. It started snowing
sometime in the early morning and it’s still coming down pretty hard. It is dry
snow which is easier to shovel but it also blows around more so it creates
white-outs on the highways…..and that’s very bad. And according to the weather
network it won’t stop snowing completely until Wednesday night and then sunny on Thursday!....but it starts again
on Friday! This is March break too and I'm sure the snow is ruining a lot of people's plans.
There was no post on Friday because I got up at 4:45 to catch the 6:18 train to Aldershot where I met my
sister and we then took the GO train into Toronto
to see the Canada Blooms exhibit. It was a great day and I so enjoyed having a
sister day out…but it was a long day as the returning train didn’t get into
9:00 that night. Tired! This sister, Pearl, is a gardener several notches above
the average gardener. Her garden is like a miniature Royal Botanical Garden ….and
she belongs to the RBG and knows all the Latin botanical names of plants as
well as the common names. She has over 1,000 perennials started in her house
that are for her garden….unless she shares a few with close friends and her
sister!!! Here we are at the front of the exhibit.
Pearl is nine years older than I am but you would never know she is 78 years old.
Today’s
card turned out better than I thought it would. It was another experiment.
The
flowers were another free download from the Internet and coloured with pencils
and blended with gamsol. This time I cut around them leaving a very small
border. I dug through the stash and found some purple cardstock and ran the top
piece through an embossing folder. I have a stack of those round alphabets and
matching strips that I picked up at the thrift store for next to nothing and
have not used them. I decided today was the day to see if they were worth
buying. The two purple pieces were taped together and then the peel-off strip
was adhered over the seam.
The
round alphabets just didn’t look right just stuck on so I punched out
purple-pinkish cardstock that matched the flowers and then glued them on to them. Some didn’t stick well so I
ended up adding glue to keep them down. The flowers and the alphabets were all
glued on with dimensional glue dots. One of my daughters loves purple so if one
of my friends don’t claim this one, it will go to her.
That’s
all for a very snowy Monday, March 13, 2017.
Cheers
Violet

ReplyDeleteFlower Show!! How awesome!!! I LOVE flower shows and how great you got to go with your sister... Sounds like a wonderful day! I hear we have a Botanical Garden here in Fayetteville,AR about 50 miles down the road i'd like to check out and theres one in Little Rock, AR or was it Hot Springs, AR ... i don't remember... but i'd love to go too...Working at the Garden Center all those years i do know a little bit about plants and their names etc... I know more common names than botanical names though... It must have been fun to see the gardens with someone so knowledgeable..
I love how you take different pieces of paper and make them work in your cards.. You do such an awesome job... Beautiful card Violet..Stay warm and safe.... I'll be painting in the craftroom today!!! Hugs! deb
