Monster Card

Yesterday was a weird speech day to the point it was hilariously ridiculous! (I have two rare brain disorders for any new readers to the blog) It seemed each word had about 18 extra syllables added to the end of it. Joe had a hard time understanding me and that's unusual as he has gotten pretty good at deciphering me most of the time - but yesterday was a whole new ball game! Of course, there is a bit of pain associated with these days (OK maybe more then a bit) so we got caught up on some shows we taped - X-factor (incredibly talented people) and The Amazing Race. Then I decided to make some cards but first I printed off 6 pages of card sketches from various sources that I had been saving on the computer. It was my intention to start using them. I made 7 cards yesterday using only the current sketch from Freshly Made Sketches. The other 6 cards I just made up as I went. So strange that I don't use sketches. Maybe today.

Anyway, this week's challenge at Stamping Bella was to make a Halloween card. I don't have any of her actual Halloween stamps so I improvised. So, like I said before, I used the card sketch from Freshly Made Sketches and they allow it to be used on up to three challenges.

The middle monster is holding a balloon in the actual stamp. However, I covered it up with a piece of tape before stamping. The image was stamped with Archival Black Ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder. Then the image was coloured with Prismacolor pencils and gamsol. Then I went over each monster with a Versamark pen and then dipped it in clear embossing powder and heat set it. That way the images would be protected when I sponged the background. First I punched out a small circle on some old x ray film and sponged on yellow ink; then that was covered with the circle and the background was sponged with about 4 colours of Distress Inks. The bats were punched out from a Stampin' Up stamp and attached with pop dots for dimension and I just hand drew a line leading from the monster's hand to the top bat. The image was mounted on orange, then black and then on to the designer paper. The bottom strip is black paper with a purple ribbon and instead of a bow that was on the sketch, I added another bat. I think my two year old grandson is getting this one.

  2. I don't mind any questions! Gamsol is sort of like turpentine but without the smell. It melts the wax in the Prismacolor pencils to blend them. You dip a dense stub (not sure what they are called) into it and then spread it around. Lots of videos on Youtube about it. Fun to do. It evens sprads around regular pencil crayons but not quite as good as the Prismacolor ones.
