White, Blue and Dry Embossed!

Snowing like crazy here! And according to the weather report it will be snowing every day for the next few days. Ugh. Wish we could go south for a few weeks. But the good thing is that the Northern Cardinals look so nice sitting in the snow. This morning we had 5 male cardinals and 4 females all at once in our backyard, along with the Dark-eyed Juncos, sparrows, morning doves and one Downy Woodpecker. Love watching the birds at our feeders. I knew better then to pop out with my camera to try to get some pictures though. Good way to get pneumonia when I already have a cold.

And that's the bad news of the day - I have a very bad cold. I never catch colds. That's Joe's thing and I never even come down with one when he gets them. I cannot remember the last time I had a head cold or even the flu. I just get weird things like brain disorders, but other then that, I'm very healthy - usually. So I'm popping Echinacea and using the Neti pot and keeping Kleenex real close by. But I'm really not feeling all that sick (although my nose disagrees with that statement) so I went down to the lower studio yesterday and made a couple cards for the Merry Monday challenge over at www.alwaysplayingwithpaper.com blog. Instead of a sketch this week, she made a 9-patch grid and we were to pick a line and use that combination. I chose white, blue and dry embossed for my card. Actually I made two cards because I wasn't crazy about the first one.

Here's the card I will be entering into the challenge.

I ran white cardstock thru the Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dot embossing folder and inked the dots blue with Faded Jeans Distress Ink - just to be different. Then I inked the edges with the same blue and glued it to the card base. This card has dry embossed and regular embossed but they didn't say I couldn't use both. So, the snowflake lady is embossed with a glitter embossing powder in dark blue - and so is the sentiment. I cut around the embossed snowflake and adhered it to the card with dimensional glue dots I just got in my stocking. These were very large and I wanted some smaller pieces so I folded the release paper that they are on over one of them and then cut them into 4 pieces so they didn't stick to my scissors. Worked just fine. The sentiment was die cut with the long rectangle die set from Spellbinders. Clear gems were added to the centre of the snowflake and the small snowflake by the sentiment. It was very hard to photograph this card, and the other one, so they both look nicer in real life then the do here.

This is the first card I made. I like it OK but it's not very dramatic. Very subdued in fact but one of the great-nephews will like, I hope.
This one did not photograph well at all. It is an all white card, ignore the pinky tone. I ran the front of the card base thru the Cuttlebug with the Stampin' Up snowflake folder and inked the edges with Tumbled Glass Distress ink. Then I stamped the snowman with blue ink and then added some small blue snowflakes in the same blue. Blue gems were added to three of the snowflakes. It is actually a very pretty card in real life.

  2. I love the flourishes of the first card and the sponged embossing! A very tricky technique and done so well! I can see that the second card is beautiful but really hard to photograph! Thank so much for sharing these with us at Merry Monday, Violet!
