Decorated JOY

I have a rule that I almost always follow – never cut fabric or sew when I’m not feeling 100%. I broke the rule this week and paid for it. I wasn’t sick, just tired from not sleeping well but I decided to cut the fabric for a bird wall-hanging. When Fabricland (boo) closed down I bought a new ruler which I thought was the standard 6x12. It came with one edge that as suppose to sharpen your rotary blade when you use it and I’ve pretty much just used that edge. This time the pattern called to cut the bird panels 4 7/8” x 6”. So I flipped the ruler and cut them what I thought was 6”.  Fast forward to sewing another strip on the ends of EACH panel, making and adding a half-square triangle onto a 6” piece and then sewing this strip to the bird panel.  This last one didn’t fit. What? It was ½” too short. What? So I thought I cut the 6” strip 5 ½” so I cut more making sure they were 6”. Still didn’t fit! What? So I checked my ruler. It turns out it is 6 ½” x 12”, not 6 x 12. Groan! (Why didn’t I use the measure twice, cut once?) So, I ordered more of the fabric that I cut twice and luckily she can get me more of the charcoal fabric. The owner of the on-line quilt shop is a member of our quilt guild. You can see what I’m making by going to her blog and strolling down a bit.  http://www.pastimepieces.com/blog. She has the best kits. I bought the kit which makes two wall-hangings but only enough fabric for one so I needed more anyway! But, I have a lot of stitches to remove now. Groan!

I do have a card made for the www.merrymondaychristmaschallenge.blogspot.ca. Here it is.

The challenge was to decorate the Christmas sentiment. I believe this stamp is from Stampin’ Up and I borrowed it from a fellow card maker friend last year and stamped it a few times. The little girl is a Magnolia stamp. It was coloured and then cut out and glued to the JOY panel. The panels were die cut with a Spellbinder's die. The background is from a .99 paper pack from Michaels and it just seem to suit this card. I rather like it and I hope the recipient does too.

That’s all for a Thursday!

Cheers

Violet
