A New Rose and Another Bird Card

Well the severe thunderstorm warning we were under yesterday when I wrote the post was a warning for nothing. We get most of our weather from Michigan so when the Detroit area is under a storm warning, they assume it will be coming our way too. It must have veered off south to follow the lake this time. We did get a rain shower but that was all. Today was an almost perfect day weather wise. Although it was hot and humid in the morning, the wind picked up enough to make it very comfortable. This was grass cutting and gardening day so I’m glad it was a nice day. Needless to say, I’m a little tired tonight but the garden looks so much better with the dead irises and peonies trimmed away.

Last week we stopped at a garden centre just to get a few plants to fill in where the first ones didn’t make it…..I hate bare spots…..but Joe was with me. He’s the one that keeps saying, “We’re done, we’re done. No more flowers” and then he gets in a greenhouse and starts wandering. He absolutely fell in love with this huge hanging basket and he asks for so little I said I’d buy it for him. Once it was up on the counter he says, “I just want to show you one more thing. I know you said you are not replacing the roses we lost but just come and look at this rose”. It was a rose like I’ve never seen before so no wonder he was entranced with it. It’s called “Orange and Lemon” and it is a striped orange and yellow rose….and I mean orange. As soon as it blooms again, I’ll snap a picture of it to show you. Yes, we bought it too! He stopped on the way out the door when his eyes saw the Martha Washington geraniums but I called, “No, don’t even think about it. Keep on trucking”. He laughed but kept going.

I thought I’d post a card with another one of Tim Holtz crazy birds. There are five of them in the set. Love this one too.

I stamped him on some water colour paper and painted him with cheap water colour paints. The background was made with splotches of paint and then I sponged on some darker ink around the edges. I tried to put the card through my Stampin’ Up cloud embossing folder but it didn’t fit sideways in the Big Shot so I ran a brayer over it to get some impression and then sponged ink on top. It is barely visible in the photo but you can see it in real life. The bird just seemed to be in deep thought so I added the thinking of you sentiment.

That’s all for a lovely Tuesday night,

 Cheers
Violet

  1. I LOVE that background effect you achieved Violet! Love the colors. and that bird .. so adorable. Rain... thats all i can say... Tropical Storm Bill is giving us tons of rain.... I'm so glad to see it... We had gone about two weeks without any so this is a blessing.... with more expected. Apparently from the predictions we are right in the path... :) So glad i live on a hill.. :)

Plants.... not sure how much gardening is gonna happen around here... flowers or otherwise... i think i will be limited to what i can put on the back deck and hang on the front porch as we are literally overrun with deer... I might try some deer resistant plants i've heard of and suggestions are welcome but i really do not want to live in Ft Knox to have plants .. i'd rather see the deer than go to great lengths to keep them out... They keep all my bushes and trees neatly trimmed up... The previous owner had a couple Forsythia bushes planted that are suppose to be deer resistant but they have stripped them... I'm gonna get really good at container gardening.. :) I always have to think twice about what house plants to bring home because of Jinx... he keeps me under control.:) Hugs! deb
