Well
the wonderful above seasonal temperatures lasted for two entire days – temps in
the 50’s (F) which is far from normal in February. Today was nice and sunny but
a bit cooler with the wind being quite cold. We have a small bush here in Chatham and we went for a
walk there on Saturday looking for but not finding the Great Horned Owl…….and I
went back yesterday by myself and found the owl. Here’s the picture of it that
I got.
Not a great shot because it was so high in the tree but I was happy to get to see it. I love owls. This one was being harassed by a murder of crows so it would fly from tree to tree to try to escape them but they kept after it.
Then
Joe and I and my friend, Phene (short for Josephine), went back over today for another
walk and Phene spotted the owl again. And this time I got an even better shot
of it.
The crows were not bothering it today even though it was roughly in the same spot. I guess they gave up.
When
I’m not walking I’m making 12x12 blocks for the Big Sewing Bee sponsored by
Quilt Canada who hope to have at least 1,000 quilts made to donate across
Canada to the Ronald McDonald houses. So far I’ve finished 30 blocks and I have
about 15 or more partly done. I’m having so much fun making these I can’t seem
to quit…….and they are scrappy quilt blocks so I’m reducing my stash of fabric
scraps too…..a win-win situation.
A
friend of mine asked me to make her a card for a 2 year old girl. Well my one
and only granddaughter will soon be 25 so it’s been awhile since I’ve had a two
year old around but this is one of the cards I made for her to see. I made a
few so she would have a choice.
I
found the image on the internet; printed it out and quickly coloured it with
coloured pencils and blended it with gamsol. All the paper and ribbon is from
the stash. I used Stampin’ Up stitched circle to die cut the image and mounted
it on a Spellbinder’s die cut circle in yellow. Chalk was sponged around the
image in blue with yellow around the outside and once the card was finished I
added the sequins and Wink of Stella to her dress and headband. The sentiment
was heat embossed in yellow and it is a HOTP stamp.
That’s
all for a sunny but cool Monday, February 20, 2017. This is a holiday here in Canada called “Family
Day” and it was to encourage families to spend the day doing fun things
together. My daughters and their spouses already spend scads of time with their
children but some families do not so I hope those that don’t usually do so got
the hint and did so today. I believe it is also a holiday in the USA – President’s Day so happy President’s Day
to my USA
readers.
Cheers
Violet
You had me at Owls... :) I love owls too...and what great pictures you took... I have seen very few owls in my life.. The one i remember is hiking around dusk coming out of a ravine up to the parking lot and i looked up and there was an owl sitting on a sign post...Gorgeous quick encounter...
ReplyDeleteYou've been so busy Violet! I still can't get over that gorgeous deer quilt... This little blue fairy card i think is perfect for a two year old... I'd love to know which one she picked.. :) Hugs! deb
