A Northern Lights Card

Well we finally had a weekend with more typical May temperatures! It was quite warm but there was still a cool wind blowing at the lake. Last night we had a huge thunderstorm with pounding rain. Today was quite hot and humid…..and now another thunderstorm and more rain! It looks like we can expect rain every day this week except Thursday. We bought our bedding plants yesterday but not sure when I’ll get them planted!

There was a double rainbow here last night and I captured a picture of it from our front porch. The top rainbow is faint in the photo though.

And tonight there was another double rainbow! Incredible seeing one on two consecutive nights!.....but no picture tonight.

There have been many photos on Facebook lately of the northern lights so I decided to make a card showcasing them. This is my first attempt…..I think there should be more green. What do you think? This card was entered into the Merry Monday Christmas Card Challenge.

****Update - on the original card, the sky is green, not yellow. The camera changed it.

This was fun to make! I started out with a piece of white cardstock and stamped the trees along the bottom with Archival black ink……a nice variety of tree stamps from various companies was used.

Once the ink dried I sponged Distress Ink from the bottom of the card up. I think I used Peeled Paint, Dusty Concord, Broken China; Fired Brick (I think or Warm Lipstick) and some Mustard Seed. Then I sponged on Chipped Sapphire from the edges in a bit and then Black Soot around the edges.

Once I was happy with the colours re-stamped just a couple of the trees as they got a bit lost. Then I splattered on some water-downed white acrylic paint for snow. Once all that dried some silver glitter thread was wound around the card and ‘noel’ was die cut out of silver cardstock with some Cuttlebug dies and glued on. This was then glued to the white card base.
