A Thanksgiving Day Update and a Christmas Card

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadians reading this….to the others, Happy Monday! We had a very quiet weekend because the weather turned quite cold and a very cold wind was blowing. My brain disorders do not like cold wind blowing on me. I have to bundle up like it’s the arctic so I have a tendency to wait until it’s consistently cold and everyone is bundled up before I go for a walk outside.

Although I have many things to be thankful for, there were two incidents this weekend that I was not the least bit thankful for. First one was yesterday when I was making the Halloween cards using Alcohol Ink. The little slippery bottle just flew out of my hands….and the lid was off of course…and landed on the floor…but left little, and big, drops of purple alcohol ink on my table, some paper and cardstock, paper trimmer, my huge stamp holder book and the TV table the book was on…and the floor of course. Yikes, what a mess and no, alcohol does not come off any of those surfaces. Luckily I craft in the basement so it didn’t matter what I marked up but still….grrrr.

Then today was even a more unthankful event. I was trying to get some Christmas cards made and was embossing a sentiment and the heat gun quit. Just quit without warning. It was working fine and just died….and because today is a holiday, the stores are all closed. Grrrr again. Oh well, I still got some made but it was still annoying and now I have to spend money on a new one.

I did get the grandkids Halloween cards and bookmarks made…they are all veracious readers and love it when I make them bookmarks…. but I don’t have them photographed yet so I’m posting yet another Christmas card.

I had this green card base that at some point I ran through the Big Shot using a Cuttlebug holly leaf embossing folder ….and then set it aside because I had no idea how to finish it. I decided it was either, use it or toss it ….and tossing something in good shape is not something I do. The little berries on the embossed areas were coloured red – probably another old feeble attempt to salvage it. So, after looking at it for a moment …or several moments … I decided it was so bright it needed to be covered up. So, out came the velum. Once I placed a piece of frosted velum over the top, it calmed everything down. Good start! Then I decided to die cut that huge sentiment (Aliexpress die) out of bright red and I liked that. It was die cut twice and glued together and then I laid it face down in the VersaMark pad and squished it down so it was covered, poured clear embossing powder of the top and heat embossed it….heat gun was working at this point…. and glued it down. Then the ribbon was wrapped around the velum and glued down with a simple bow added. The red from the berries were still quite visible so I decided to add some red to the top. I had those little red stars that were left over from another die and glued them on. This card went from ‘your so ugly I should toss you’ to a ‘you’re a nice looking card now’.

That’s all for a cold and windy Thanksgiving Monday, October 14, 2019.

Cheers

Violet
