The Big 13 birthday

We had another ‘day off’ today and had a BBQ at the lake. It’s always just that bit cooler by the water that makes it nice to just sit and read. We are in for another two weeks of very hot and humid weather though so there may be more trips to the lake. Posting to the blog may not be very regular this summer.

This weekend is another grandson’s birthday…the big 13! This is the card I made for him.

This was a fun card to make. First I dug out a 6” paper pack with green paper because green is his favourite colour! I cut some strips on an angle from a few pieces and glued them to a piece of white scrap paper. Then I ran it through a star embossing folder. Once it was cut down to size it was glued to the front of a green folded card….just a regular 4.25 x 5.5 card with the front folded over in half. But the stars did not show up as much as I expected them to do. So I took a VersaMark pen and went over each star with it and then poured clear embossing powder on them and heat set it. Some of them I did twice. It’s amazing what a difference it made. Then some more stars were cut from more of the same paper – but the big one was mounted on cardstock first because the paper was too thin. The sentiment is a black peel-off – the last one I have I think. I used to order these peel-offs from Paper Wishes but their delivery cost to Canada got ridiculous so I quit ordering anything……insert big sigh here! The star on the inside right side is only attached on the right because the large star on the front of the card hooks into it to keep the card closed. I wasn’t sure it was going to work or not but it did. The inside of the card had more green paper glued on and more stars and the large number 13. I wrote a personal message to him on the inside flap as well.

Here is the card opened up.

That’s all for a hot and humid day on Friday, July-17-2020. Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Stay safe; be kind to others; and enjoy life to the fullest.

Cheers

Violet
