Strips make great cards

Another cold day here in Ontario but no more snow so that’s a blessing.

There are a lot of people who are lonely and sad during this pandemic. A friend of mine called and asked if I could make some thinking of you cards for her and she emailed me one of mine that she had that she really liked and wanted more like it. Of course I said yes and of course I made several so she could choose the ones she liked. I’ve been sending them out as well so I didn’t mind having some left. However, she wanted them all. I did not photograph each one as they are all made the same way with some variation. Here they are.

I love making these cards!....and it uses up a lot of scraps. I keep all the small strips left over from other projects and keep them sort of colour coordinated. Then I take any thin paper – usually copy paper that was printed wrong on one side -  and cut it down to 5.5 x 4.25. The side with the printing, if there is some, is flipped down and I start gluing down the strips on the clean side – sometimes on an angle; sometimes straight; sometimes a combination. For these ones I glued them all on an angle. Then they are run through an embossing folder. This really helps seal the glue and it adds some texture. They are then trimmed down to 5.25 x 4. Then the fun begins – decorating the front. Each one has a geometric shape glued down and then other elements are added – flowers; stickers, feathers, whatever you have on hand. Add a sentiment and glue it to a standard 5.5 x 4.25 card base and call it done. These could be used for birthday cards or sympathy cards as well.

I hope you give this a try. These were all geared toward women but I make them for men as well. I’ll post one of them on Friday.

That’s all for a cold Wednesday on February 10, 2021.

 Cheers

Violet
