Flowers in a Jar Card

This has been a very wet and cold May and I’m not happy about that at all. The migratory birds fly up from the southern USA states, Mexico and South America to Southern portion of Ontario every May and after resting a few days/weeks some of them move to Northern Ontario where they breed. A few stay in our area over the summer. They all fly back south in the fall. So we have the first three weeks of May to see and photograph the migratory birds. We’ve only been able to go out three times so far. Before I post today’s card, here’s a few of the birds I did get to photograph.

Black-throated Blue Warbler

                                             Palm Warbler

                                 Black-throated Green Warbler
                                     Black and White Warbler

I did manage to get some card making in though. My sister had some delicate heart surgery done and we are so pleased that she is doing just fine now. I made a card for her but then I made this card and decided I liked it better so she is getting this one first.

I had some inked backgrounds made and set aside and decided to use them instead of making more. The background is just white cardstock that I dipped into various Distress Inks that were sprayed with water. If you do this, make sure you dry each layer in between dips or you end up with mud….no need to wonder how I know that! Before YouTube and Tim Holtz videos, I experimented with inks and papers and ended up with a very muddy pieces before I figured it out.

The flowers were stamped and die cut; the foliage were from various dies as well. The flowers all have Stickles added to the centre. The canning jar is from and old Close to My Heart stamp. It was stamped on velum; flipped over and the bottom half filled in with a blue alcohol pen to look like water. It’s hard to tell in the photo but there is a water line there. The stamped image was then covered with a piece of double sided adhesive and cut out and set aside. The flowers and foliage were arranged and glued down with the largest one popped up on dimensional strip. Some of the individual flowers did not have stems so I drew stems with a pen. Then one layer of the adhesive was torn off the canning jar and it was placed on top of the stems. Using the double sided adhesive on velum is a good way to glue it down with no glue showing. Some extra foliage was place so it looked like it was coming out of the jar. The sentiment is a peel-off. It is mounted on a hot pink card base.

That’s all for a very cold and windy Tuesday, May 11, 2021.

Cheers

Violet

  1. So good to hear your sister is doing well Violet! I'm sure she will just LOVE that beautiful card. I look forward to seeing the other one you made.. And all your bird photos! They look card worthy too.. Now that we are in TX i'm seeing alot more Mockingbirds and ScissorTails... We had them in Arkansas just didn't see as many there... Dove are plentiful here too and Grackles... I'm curious to see what birds my feeder will attract once we are in our home.. Hugs! deb
