This is both yesterday and tomorrow’s post! I was too busy and then too tired to turn on the computer yesterday and tomorrow will be busy as well and I have a Zoom meeting in the evening. The terrible heat wave finally broke on Friday night, so we had a lovely weekend but today the A/C had to come back on as the humidity is rising again. I could not cope living in the deep south when its hot and humid all the time. Like most Canadians I say, “I like the heat but not the humidity”.
I did get a
chance to play in the lower studio (aka the basement) where I make cards and
scrapbook and paint. I was experimenting with new-to-me techniques. Some were
total failures; some just barely okay; but this one card that turned out okay.
The background was created by sponging on several
colours of Distress Inks and maybe some Distress Oxides. Once I was happy with
it, water was splashed on and then dried with an old cloth to get those lovely
blotchy places. Then a circle mask was placed where the largest flower would be
and a darker Distress Ink was sponged around it to create a sun. The mask was
removed and then water was lightly brushed on in the circle and then dried with
the cloth to lighten it. Then the scribble flowers were stamped in black.
Sorry, this is an old stamp and it was unmounted and the block is gone so I’m
not sure of the manufacturer. I’m on a ‘use your old stamps’ kick! Anyway, once
the flowers were stamped, they were coloured with some water soluble markers. A
bit of glimmer was added with the Wink of Stella pen….but it’s faint as the pen
is almost empty. Then the card was mounted to black cardstock and then onto a
white card base. The sentiment was stamped and heat embossed on a die cut
banner. This was a fun card to make.
That’s all for another hot and humid Tuesday, August-17-2021.
