Merry Monday 9 Card - Oh Christmas Tree

What crazy wind howled last night - and still doing so in fact! The trees were swaying like crazy and I thought we might lose our old birch tree but all it did was trim a few small branches off it. I can't sleep when its windy - spooky windy especially. The wind is actually growling as if its its angry. Shudder!

Today I'm posting a card from a sketch on http://alwaysplayingwithpaper.blogspot.com/. They call it Merry Monday because they post a new sketch every Monday but the kicker is - you are to make a Christmas card. I thought this was a brilliant idea - get some of those Christmas cards done throughout the year instead of all at once. Here's my card.

This card opens up instead of sideways. I've started to make some this way just for a change. I started with a dark green card base I made from thick, textured cardstock. Once again, I went to my Christmas paper stash and found that light green paper with dots on it and the piece of shiny green paper and trimmed them to size. I ran the shiny paper thru the Cuttlebug with the Spellbinders' borderabilities. I stamped the tree (from Paper Wishes Hot Off the Press - .99 for the tree and 3 small stamps) with Versamark and gold embossing powder and heat set it.  It was die cut with the Spellbinders rectangle die and then I sponged Distress Ink, Pine Needles (love that colour) around the tree while it was still in the die. I cut a piece of gold paper to mount it and then mounted the whole thing on the shiny green paper with large square pop-dots. I cut a piece of white cardstock, notched the ends and inked it with Distress Pine Needles and added the peel-and-stick sentiment.

So happy you played along again this week. Love the gold embossed tree and the sponging you did, such a lovely Christmas card!
