"In Sympathy" Card from scraps

Well the Canadian long weekend is over and the weather did not co-operatate very well at all. It rained off and on Friday and Saturday. Canada Day was yesterday - rain, rain and more rain. Sunday was the only day that it didn't rain which was good because we all had a BBQ at my daughter's new house (they moved in last weekend and had a BBQ this weekend- kids!) but the rain held off we had a great time. The American July 4th is coming this week as well and I sure hope they have better weather than we did.

I did get some scrapbooking done on the rainy days - and some quilting so the weekend wasn't a total loss for me. A couple of weeks ago I found a piece of patterned paper that came in a stack of paper I bought at the thrift store and hadn't sorted out. It was a 12" x 12" piece that someone had cut almost in half. Instead of filing it away, I decided to make as many cards as I could from it. Here is one of them.

The top of the card is the patterned paper and the bottom part is from my own stash. There is a piece of cream lace down the seam where the two papers meet. I die cut a piece of cream cardstock using my new Spellbinder's fancy square dies and backed it with some dark brown. The butterflies were die cut from the same dark brown using a Stampin' Up die. Then I just stamped the sentiment in brown ink. The scroll in the bottom right corner are the punched out corners of the die I used. Instead of throwing them away, I glued them on top of each other to make them thick and then added them as a corner treatment. A quick card to put together.
