A Spring Card on a Deep Freeze Day

We are in a deep freeze situation here in Ontario – and across the country as well. Right now (10:30 a.m.) it is -10C (14F) but with the cold wind blowing it feels like -19C (-2F). Tonight will be worse, -23C(-9F) and with the wind chill it will be -40C which is also -40F (don’t ask how this is, it just is) This cold spell is supposed to last until Thursday – which is likely when I’ll leave the house again! And it just started snowing again. This is not normal for where I live as we usually only have to have the driveway cleaned out two or three times a winter. My thoughts and prayers keep going to the homeless and I pray they are seeking shelter in a dry warm place.

By the way, on Saturday and Sunday it was so mild everything started melting which made a huge mess. Joe and I seldom ever get groceries on a Saturday anymore but we decided we better brave it and go seeing as the “storm of the year” was coming Sunday afternoon. Yikes! What a madhouse the grocery stores were…worse than the USA Black Friday and the Canadian Boxing Day sales. But, on the upside we are well supplied.

I thought last week that I would get out of the winter blues by making some spring and summer cards. This is the first time I’ve used this Stamping Bella stamp. It’s hard to make cards for boys so when I see a stamp that is just for boys I buy it. I made two cards, very similar, yet different so I’m posting both of them.

I forgot about my vow to use only left over paper from my stash and grabbed a new 6x6 paper pack I just bought at the Paper Pickle – Simple Stories brand called Harvest Lane. It just looked like it suited a little boy’s card. I just took two coordinating papers and cut them down and glued them back together. The images were coloured with Prismacolor pencils and gamsol, the blue sky is chalk and green Flower Soft was used for the grass. I used the Spellbinder Rectangle dies to die cut the image and background but I wanted one in between so I just cut a bit off to make it fit. I did use scraps do make the pieces at the bottom for the sentiment. I own the Spellbinder Card-Creator set but didn't use it - duh!

I haven’t been down to the “lower studio” yet this morning but I imagine the basement is too cold for me to sit down there so it will be the “upper studio” for me for a few days. I have a lot of beading, sewing and quilting to do so not a problem for me to keep busy.

That’s it for a cold Monday.

Cheers

Violet

  1. Stay warm Violet! We are getting sub zero temps tonight so I predict it will be an ice rink outside tomorrow, my 3 kids all have their yearly well-child checkups tomorrow am so I am hoping the roads are good, I book appointments a year ahead so I can get them back to back so I hate to cancel. The boy cards are cute and so cheerful! With the 50 degree rainy day we had I was comfy in my studio sans space heater! I decided to put all of my colored pencils back in tins so I could a=haul them upstairs to color in comfort by the fire tho LOL, it's a rough life right LOL! Stay warm!
