A Wild Weekend and a Winter Card

This a late post because I didn’t get started at it before 8:00 when the Junior World Hockey game for the gold medal came on. It was a nail biter for sure but Canada ended up winning the gold medal against Russia, 5 – 4. Whew!

What a wild weekend – weather wise that is! We had very mild temperatures hovering around freezing and at times, much higher; but with that came rain, freezing rain, more rain, more freezing rain, more rain and then snow…not much snow but a “dusting” as I call it. My friend says it was about 4 flakes deep! Ha ha, funny girl. And then to top it all off the temperatures dropped dramatically last night which means there was likely black ice on the highways. If you’re not from this part of the North America you probably don’t know what black ice is so let me explain. When the roads are damp and the temperature falls quickly a very thin layer of ice forms in patches which is all but impossible to see while driving but when you hit it, your car likes to do circles on the road, which leads to many, many crashes. Needless to say, we didn’t leave the house all weekend.

And, brrrrrrr, the cold weather continued today and we had to leave the house to go and get groceries. So, seeing as winter has returned, I am posting a card for a winter birthday today.

I have these cute Magnolia images and I decided that they would make good birthday cards for those with winter birthdays. This one was coloured with my Prismacolor pencils and gamsol. The image was die cut and embossed with a Spellbinder die and then I ran a Tombow marker around the edge – because I didn’t have any solid blue paper left to mount it on. Small clear gems were added here and there as well.....gotta have some bling.

The paper is all from the stash. I had enough of the background paper with stars to cover the front but the sold blue pieces were already cut into rectangles….but uneven. So I cut them even; backed them with white paper and then ran the two large ones through the Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder; glued one going horizontal at the top; one vertical at the bottom. For the small one I stamped and embossed the “Winter Fun” sentiment which came from a Hot Off the Press (Paper Wishes) small $1.25 stamp set. Once it was attached I added three small snowflakes with clear gems in the centre. Then the focal image was then glued on top. The inside says “Warm Wishes for your Winter Birthday” which I just printed off my computer.
