A Lighthouse Card

What a weekend! Saturday we drove to Hamilton and stayed overnight so I could get to the park early Sunday to set up for the family reunion. It was really, really hot both days but no rain so that was good. We had over 125 people at the reunion and that is just a fraction of my actual relatives but that was enough for one day! As most families, mine is large and spread out and it’s easy to lose touch with some of them. However, the good thing about my family is that we are all easy going, happy people and there was not an argument or disagreement of any kind all afternoon – just fun, fun, fun. Lots of reminiscing, lots of meeting relatives we didn’t know existed, and tons of food! We had three ladies that were either close to 90 or over 90 and one of them brought photos off her wall so we could all see them. A couple of them were of my 4x great (I think) grandmother who had to leave Germany and had no money so she put herself and the children she already had in an open boat with a hand-rigged sail and actually sailed across the Atlantic that way – and made it; reconnected with her husband and ended up with a total of eleven children. Amazing woman. We obviously come from hardy stock!

Yesterday I was brain dead. So tired. I couldn’t turn my brain off Sunday night and didn’t get to sleep until after 4:00 am. It didn’t even occur to me to post anything yesterday. But today I’m well rested and ready to share another card with you. 

This card was made with a stamp from Close to my Heart. As soon as I saw this lighthouse stamp, I had to have it. It’s so hard to find stamps for men and this one will be used a lot. The card base is from Stampin’ Up – Night of Navy I think – with the fold at the top. The stamp was stamped on white cardstock and then die cut with a Spellbinder’s die. While it was still in the die I sponged the blue ink around it, except for the sand dune which is brown ink. This leaves a nice white border. The sentiment was stamped in the same blue ink. I wanted something behind it so I ran an embossing folder through white cardstock and then just cut one strip off, and lightly sponged blue ink along the embossed areas. Once they were glued on I decided that I needed something by the lower right corner to balance the design so I die cut the anchor with a QuicKutz die, added a bit of left over ribbon – which is why I don’t throw these bits out – and called it done.
