A Santa Card

Today has just flown by and yet I don’t feel like I’ve done much. I slept in a bit which didn’t start the day off well; had a pleasant telephone conversation with my oldest sister this morning; got our hour+ walk in too….had a few rain drops but we ignored them and kept walking.....; after lunch I did finish a couple of cards that I had started and now its time to get ready for the quilt meeting tonight. Busy day but still didn’t get a lot accomplished.

Today’s card is one of the Christmas cards I just made. It meets the requirements for this challenge: http://christmascardchallenges.blogspot.ca

The challenge was to make a card from their photo of Santa and the reindeer. I chose Santa rather than the colours of the photo which were the traditional red and green. The Santa (Inkadinkado) was stamped on white cardstock; first inked with VersaMark; then black Archival ink; and then black embossing powder was poured on and heat embossed. It doesn’t show up well in this photo – I think my camera settings are off a bit but it is nice in real life. I die cut the stamped image with a Spellbinder’s circle die and while it was still in the die I sponged Distress Ink Broken China around the edge. Santa’s face was painted in with chalk.

The card base is from a pack from Michaels and comes with the curved cut-off bottom. I had picked up a couple more paper packs at the Dollar Tree last week….like I needed more but really, they were $1.25 each and scaled for cards….. and one had some paper in that picked up the Broken China colour. I cut one to fit the top of the card above the curve. The bottom of this piece of paper was inked and then glued to the inside of the card.  Then I cut a piece of another paper in a darker hue and slipped it under the circle. The strip on the side is from my stash. The edges were all inked with Distress Ink as well. It needed some bling so I added silver strips around the darker blue square; a gem in the middle of the large snowflake; and more gems around Santa. It still needed something else so I added the ribbon; bow; and more silver strips. The colours don’t look like they match in the photo but they do in real life….once again, the camera’s settings are off.

That’s all for a Wednesday,

Cheers

Violet
