Another Scrappy Card

This is a rare Sunday post but I missed both Thursday and Friday last week so I thought I’d get one in today as I sip my coffee. Our six year old grandson graduated from Senior Kindergarten to Grade one last Thursday and they had a huge graduation ceremony….go ahead and roll your eyes, everyone does!...but then they agree that if it’s important to the child that their parents and grandparents be there, then it’s nice that they can make it happen. Finn really wanted us there so we drove the almost 3 hours to watch him. So cute! Here are a couple photos of the day.

Finn and his best friend, Sabry...cookie lovers.

Afterwards we had an outing and supper down by the water. It really was a great visit.

A trolley ride along the bay.

We stayed overnight and on Friday we had a visit and lunch with my sister and then a short visit with my brother. My other sister is still in the hospital so I’ve been watering her plants and visiting her too so it has been a crazy week for sure. Hopefully she will be released within a day or two.

Today’s card was made after one of those, ‘what the heck am I going to do with this paper’ question.

I pulled out a package of left over paper….yes, even my scraps are organized in colour packs….it’s a Virgo thing…..and I am determined to use them up. So, this piece was in the pack and I kept looking at it and wondering how to use it in a card without covering up that lovely background image. There was a solid piece of paper in the pack as well that was the same colour as the background so the first thing I did was cut it to 5 ¼”x 5 ¼” to cover a 5 ½” square card leaving that white narrow white border – to pick up on the white flowers in the printed design……all the edges of all the paper were inked with a darker ink colour. There was a piece of the plain paper left over so I cut a strip and placed it across the designer paper near the bottom and added gold peel-off strips along the edges. Next the gold peel-off sympathy sentiment and a small heart were added. So far so good I thought but it needed something else….in gold. Back to the peel-off pouch to the “image” section and found the perfect gold butterfly. The butterfly trail are the left over bits from other peel-offs….never throw them away! I use every bit of the peel-offs. My peel-off pouch is from the dollar store and it has various sections so all the peel-offs are in their own section - lines; corners; sentiments; images; Christmas, etc – which makes it much easier to find things quickly.

Overall I think the card turned out pretty good and I’m pleased with it. That’s all for a very hot and humid Sunday. No bike ride or BBQ today….big thunderstorms are predicted this afternoon and tonight which is no surprise seeing as it has been hot and humid for a few days now. We desperately need a good all day rain but even a thunderstorm rain will help.

Cheers

Violet

  1. What precious photos you took Violet. And if you had not gone you wouldn't have them. I hope your sister gets out of the hospital soon. We are expecting rain here too. Just finished mowing the grass or most of it anyway. It needs touching up and edging but thats a job for another day. Hugs! deb
