I was on a Zoom conference last night and as soon as it was over I turned the computer off - and then I remembered it was Wednesday and I usually post a card on Wednesday. Ooops. So this is yesterday's card.
Very hot and humid here again and more rain and
thunderstorms. I just read that there was a tornado that touched down in
Barrie, ON which is a long way from here but still scary to think about it
happening.
I’ve posted a couple cute cards featuring dinosaurs so today
I’m switching to an elegant card.
This is a cut-away card. I don’t know how most designers do
it but I’m not a professional designer, so I just do my own thing. I take a
standard 5.5 x 4.25 white card base and cut 1.5” off the bottom; set it aside
for later. Then I place the rest of the card in the trimmer with the cut piece
sticking out; the fold at 1.5” and cut. So, I’m left with a card base with only
1.5” at the top on the front.
Then I cut a piece of
clear plastic – this came from a clear folder that Staples was selling for .07
and I picked up 4 or 5 of them! A strip of double-sided tape was glued to the
edge of the front flap and the clear plastic was placed on top. Another strip
of double-sided tape was placed on the 1.5” piece that was cut off the bottom;
I closed the card with the bottom flap lined up and pressed down – and held my
breath it was straight! Good to go. I also add a piece of scotch tape across
each section just to make sure it stays put. Then the sides of the clear
plastic were trimmed to fit.
The green paper was cut 1.5” x 5.5” and glued down but I
didn’t like the edges by the clear tape. So, I cut two very thin pieces of
white cardstock and glued them down for contrast. I couldn’t leave a white
border because my clear plastic would show so this was my alternative.
I’m not sure where the flowers came from as they were in my stash,
and I seldom keep the manufacturer’s name.
I wanted a bit of gold behind the roses, so I wrapped some gold thread
around my hand and glued it down and then glued the roses down. The sentiment
is a gold peel-off that is in the inside of the card but seen from the front. I
added some pink gems in different shapes and sizes and called it done.
Whew! That was a long explanation but hopefully clear enough
in case someone wants to make one. If you have questions, feel free to leave
them in the comments.
That’s all for a hot and humid Thursday, July-15-2021.
Cheers
Violet
