This week has just flown by….and this month as well. Hard to believe that tomorrow is the last day of September. We have had typical fall weather here as well. I miss the heat already! But I have put on a brave face and accepted that fall is here, and I’ve made a start on my Halloween cards. Here’s the first one I made.
The background was made by sponging on a wide variety of Distress Inks and maybe some distress Oxide inks. I had forgotten to place a mask where I wanted the moon to be..grrrr. But I wondered what would happen if I just sponged Distress Oxide Yellow ink right over the background. I placed the negative circle piece where I wanted it and sponged away -wow! I really like it. I may do this more often. The colour behind the yellow oxide made natural shadows.
Next, I stamped those cracked lines along the top and a bit down the side. Not sure what they are supposed to be but they make a great spooky background. Then all the images were die cut twice at least and glued together: sometimes three times to get more dimension. The die set did not come with logs or fire, so I had to improvise there, which turned out okay; well sort of okay.
The pot and witch are black (with white ink gently sponged along the edges) and the mouse is dark brown - looks black here but it is brown. I wanted some steam coming out of the cauldron, so I used a dry paint brush dipped in white acrylic paint; swished it on scrap paper to get a lot of it off; and then did some dry brushing above the pot. It’s faint but it’s there in real life. I wanted some bubbles coming out of the pot too, but I don’t have a bubble stamp. I tried punching some green paper, but it was blah looking. And then I remembered I still had a lot of those glass flat beads from years ago and they worked just fine. Then the branch, the spider, and the bat were glued on. Once I liked it, it was glued to a black card base.
Whew, long post tonight. Lots of different techniques used on this card but I like it. The next few cards are really different and I really like them, so creepy there are! Hope you come back to see them.
That’s all for a rather cold Thursday, September 29, 2022.
Cheers
Violet
