The Blizzard and a Card

My hand has finally healed enough I can type again! The burn was much worse than I thought it was - 1st and 2nd degree burns. The 2nd degree burns are still healing but the fingertips and palm are almost 100% better.

Before I post the card I thought I would post a few photos of the snow blizzard we had here on the Christmas weekend. It was the worse I can remember. The temperatures were around -24C (-10F) but with the wind chill it felt like -48C (-54F). We didn’t so much as open the door. Our wonderful neighbours came and dug out our car and the driveway for us though and refused to take any payment. We have wonderful neighbours.

This is our backyard. The snow drifted up over halfway up the side of the shed. We didn’t actually get a huge amount of snow but because of the strong winds it was blowing in circles and where it landed, the drifts were huge.

Out in the country it was a different story. Lots of snow and it drifted in side roads. Double click to see it properly. Those are the tops of cars sticking up in the snow drift.

Many people were stranded but good natured residents took in strangers to spend the night with them. One family took in a family of 12 that were originally from West Africa and were travelling from Toronto to Windsor and even the major highway (401) was impassable and they were stranded. I’m sure when they immigrated to Canada from West Africa they never imagined snow like this.  The city also opened many churches and schools for others that needed refuge. By Wednesday the temperatures were above normal and everything started melting. Crazy end to 2022.

And now for today’s card.

I decided to make a card a little different than my normal ones. I found this pretty paper in one of the 6” paper packs I bought at the dollar store. It was so pretty I didn’t want to chop it up…. but It needed more than to be just glued to a card base. I had a package of ephemera stickers and flipped through it and found that butterfly that actually had a pink rose on it; the bird; and the feather. Why the bird on the feather? I don’t know but the card needed a pop of colour and I just liked the feather so I trimmed off the boring branch the bird was on and glued him to the feather. I added the gold peel-off sentiment to the butterfly wing along with the very tiny gold dots. They are the ones left over when using peel-offs and they come in so handy. Once I liked the card, it was glued to a white card base. I really liked how this card turned out. I just might make some more like this.

That’s all for a very mild Monday, January 2, 2023.

  Cheers

Violet
