Hard to believe that we just had the coldest weather I can ever remember just over a week ago because today it was 10C (50F) but so much rain we are now under a rain/flood warning. The odd weather pattern continues in 2023.
Today I’m posting another card that I created just playing around with some left over strips.
I had those two outside pieces left over from cutting two 6” pieces of paper from a paper pack down to the normal A2 size. I have a tendency to do that and just toss the extras to one side ‘to be used later’ …. and sometimes its much, much later. So, I found yet another piece that sort of but not exactly matched and placed it in the centre. Not bad but they all needed to be more connected.
So out came the Distress Inks and I sponged some colours around on the middle piece and some, but less, on the outside pieces until I felt they looked good together. Water was splattered on the middle piece and then blotted off to leave those lovely white spots. I used a small printed word stamp to add some more interest to the background and that too, connected the three pieces. They were taped together at the back and then a gold peel-off strip was added down the seams on the front.
I wanted to use that large pink butterfly (dollar store find) but the background just needed a little more of something. So, I started doodling with a black, thin marker and drew a few squiggly lines in a sort of circle where the the butterfly was going to sit making sure I included all three pieces; then drew some designs in some of the places or added ‘x’s. Once the butterfly was glued on I patiently picked up some left over black peel-off bits to make a butterfly trail. The sentiment is a black peel-off. I was going to stamp it but didn’t want to chance messing it up. It was then mounted on a rusty brown card base. It’s different than I usually do but I want to break out of my comfort zone this year and try new techniques.
That’s all for a mild but wet Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
OH: the burnt hand. I was carrying boiling hot, watery soup from the microwave to the counter and the lid started to fall off and somehow I managed to spill the hot soup all over the left hand. 1st and 2nd degree burns. Still healing after 16 days.
Cheers
Violet
