Spooky Cards

Brrrr. We had four days in the 70’s last week which is pretty unusual for the end of October but then it dropped almost in half…and its brought a cold rain with it…nasty day! Its going to be just above the freezing mark tonight and for the next few nights. In fact, Halloween will be one of the coldest Halloween’s ever.

So, seeing as its almost Halloween, I’m posting a couple more of the Halloween cards.

The background and moon were done the same way as the previous cards. Just scroll on back to read the process. Most of these were made with Tim Holtz die cuts and stamps but there are a few other manufacturers products as well. The spooky tree branch being one of them. The back ground needed some grunge so I ripped some tears in it and distressed all the edges. Then the die cut of the trick and treaters was glued on. The sentiment, from another source, was stamped on a Tim Holtz ragged banner. This one didn’t much else except for the bat.

I have two grandsons who love cats so they each got one of these cards….they live hundreds of miles apart so no worries there. Once again the backgrounds and moons were made the same way as the previous cards. The cat is a Tim Holtz die cut, even the eyes and the inside part of the ears are separate. The pumpkins are Tim’s as well. For the pumpkins I inked an entire piece of water colour water cardstock with a variety of yellow, oranges, rust and green and then stamped and hand cut the pumpkins….no dies for these ones. Once cut, the outside edges were inked in black ink and the outer edges in rust. Colours were adjusted as needed. The spooky tree is from another source, no idea whose. Then I added a die cut bat and some stamped bats. The boys loved them.

I liked the people sitting on gravestones but I wanted something a little more spooky. So I took my foam stamp of the gravestones - die cut it from foam and use it as a stamp - and stamped the background. Then I added the Tim Holtz paper dolls that I had coloured a bit with crayons (Stampin’ Up set with limited colours) and glued them on. Then I hand cut those tombstones which were free downloads from the Internet. Not spooky enough. What to do. What to do. I came up with an idea and decided to go for it. I added a strip of 4” wide double sided adhesive over top of the already created card; removed the top piece to exposes the glue side and then added a piece of velum on top. I sure held my breath doing it. I was afraid I had ruined it but no, it does look foggy and more spooky. Whew! I added the moon, bat and grass on top of the card. The sentiment was hand cut from a 12”x 12” paper pack from Michael’s last year. It seemed to suit the card.

I have a few more to share but, maybe tomorrow.

That’s all for a cold and rainy Sunday, October 29, 2023.

Cheers

Violet
