Hot, hot and humid. That was yesterday and again today. It
was in the high 80’s yesterday and still 86F at 10:00 last night. We ended up
back at Wheatley Provincial
Park yesterday and the wind coming off
Lake Erie kept the temperature low enough to
be very comfortable. Love it up on the cliff by the lake. We decided late
afternoon to take a break from the ladder toss game to go for a walk over to
the camp sites to see if the herons were still around. Let’s just say once we
were inland about 50 feet and the wind didn’t reach there, it was a little
hotter than we expected! On a fallen log by the bridge to the campsite there
were 4 turtles soaking up the sun. Of course I had to get a picture of them. I
love turtles.
At the campground we
did see some herons and egrets and I got some great shots – along with a funny
story.
There was an empty campsite just by the inlet and Joe
spotted a heron standing on a stump. I’m a little short and I couldn’t see over
the bushes so he decided to drag the picnic table over by the bushes for me to
stand on. Yup, worked great and I got a fairly good shot. Then he spots an
egret but I can’t see it from where I’m standing on the picnic table – so he
drags it back to the right. Yup, got that shot too. Then he notices that the next campsite is
also empty so we walk over there. Wow, a clear view of the heron on the stump,
no bushes and he’s closer than ever for a close-up shot. We started to laugh so
hard. Lets face it, some people just have to do everything the hard way and we
fall into that category. Here are the photos of the heron and egret.
There was something sitting on a small log quite away from
shore so I snapped a photo to see what it was. It turned out to be a duck
sharing the small space with two turtles. How cute is that! Gee, why can't
humans get along like that with people who are different than them?
Another hot day and a chance of thunderstorm later today.
The clothes are drying on the clothesline and I sure hope they get dry before
the storm hits. Have a great Monday everyone!
Violet
