Using Stencils on Cards

Well we sure had a busy weekend. Saturday was still wet and cold so I got a lot of quilting done; Sunday after church we had lunch out and then raked leaves and bagged up seven large bags full. The largest majority of these leaves came from down the street as we only have two small trees in our yard and one was almost bare and the other hasn’t even started to lose its leaves. However, we had such a strong swirling wind last week that the leaves ended up on both sides of the house. When we took them to our city’s composting pile today there was a long line up to get in and the fellow at the gate told us it had only been open a little more than an hour and we were car number 145…and they were still lined up waiting when we left. Chatham is very good at recycling and composting!

Then, after supper Sunday, we decided to go to the Chatham Maroons hockey game – Junior B hockey – and it was a good game and they won but of course something funny had to happen. The staff blow a loud air horn every time our team scores and I guess they scored one time too many and it affected my speech. I didn’t know this until I turned to Joe and said, “What did he do to get a Penelope?” “What?....Penelope?”…oh, you mean, penalty?” “Oh boy!” Yup, could not say penalty at all, and still can’t…comes like Penelope every time. So funny!

I did get a card done this week too. I’ve decided to use the stencils I usually use for art journals and mixed media on my cards. Here’s the first one I did.

The background is yellow cardstock that I first sponged Distress Inks around to give it some subtle difference in colour. Then I held down the hexagon stencil and just sponged on some ink through some of it, leaving it very irregular. The black flower was die cut from black cardstock using a Memory Box die. Once it was glued in place I added some yellow gems to the centres of the flowers. The sentiment is a peel-off which I noticed was crooked when I took the picture so it has been fixed! I then mounted it all one black cardstock and then the white card base.
