A Wiper Card

One day it’s very cold with an even colder wind blowing and the next day, above freezing. I think this is why people get sick in the winter….we over dress and under dress on the wrong days!

Every year I make special cards for the grandkids but this year only one is getting this type of card. The wiper card is very cute but too ‘cute’ for the older boys according to hubby and I guess it is…they are 12 and 15….the oldest are 20 and 27 so definitely too cute for them. But the youngest is only 9 so I think he will like it.

Here’s Finn’s wiper card.

This is the front of the card that looks like a regular card…but it is not. The background started out as white cardstock and I used Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to colour in the sky. Then a snowball stencil was placed over the ink and stencil paste was smeared on with a palette knife and set aside to dry. The hill was die cut with a stitched die. The snowman and sentiment is from an old stamp set and it was coloured with alcohol markers and then cut out with scissors ….no matching die for this one. Once I knew where he was going to be placed I stamped the image again to get the poles and other fine details that were too small to hand cut. Then he was simply glued into place. It was mounted on a special wiper card base that folds up to a standard card size.

This is the card out flat.

When you pull the card apart it not only opens up but that bit at the top pops up…this is the ‘wiper’ part. When you fold the card back down, the wiper goes down as well. Of course I had to embellish the two extra pieces on the left. The first one is just paper (ignore my name) and the next one was stamped and then the bulbs were coloured in. I actually stamped and die cut a different snowman from the same stamp set for the back of the card along with the greeting but forgot to photograph it.

If you want to make one of these, just go to YouTube and type in ‘wiper card tutorial’ ….there are lots but the one from Split Coast Stampers was my favourite.

That’s all for a cold and windy Friday, December 6, 2019. Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Try to do take the time to enjoy the beauty of the world around you; smile at a stranger and never pass up an opportunity to perform a random act of kindness. I’ll be back on Monday with another card.

Cheers

Violet

PS: To save a card to your Pinterest account, simply hover over the image until the ‘Pin It” symbol appears and then click…it sometimes take a few seconds. This will take you to your own Pinterest account to save the card.
