Once again it’s back to winter weather. We had a few snow showers yesterday but they didn’t amount to much which was good. It meant I didn’t have to pry Joe out of the house to go to church! If it was snowing hard there was no way to get him out. We laugh because 30 years ago we would head out somewhere during a snow storm without a worry….. and now if he sees a few flakes of snow he won’t budge. Age does that to you!
Today I’m posting four cards….yes four. Last
week at the camera club I was able to get some decent shots of some nutcrackers
they had set up and I turned them into cards.
They had three
nutcrackers that were lined up in front of some miniature lights and this is
the shot I got of them. I printed it off on photo paper and trimmed it down to
fit on a standard card base with a wider than normal border. Instead of
mounting it on gold cardstock, which I’m running out of, I simply used a gold
Bic pen and ran it down the edges. To get a nice straight line I use an old
greeting card to cover the photo so just the small bit is showing along the
edge that I want to be gold. The sentiment is a gold peel-off. These were all
quick and easy cards.
This nutcracker had a purple hat and footstool so I had to use purple for him. I had bought several packages of adhesive backed glitter paper from the dollar store. I thought I found the bargain of the year – turns out I did not. I cannot get any of them to cut using dies. It cuts the adhesive backing but not the glitter paper. So I have to use it where I can cut it with a paper trimmer or with scissors. I was able to get two nutcrackers on each 4x6 photo paper so I was able to cut them apart and leave a nice white border. I use an exactor knife and ruler for this instead of the paper trimmer. Then it was glued to the darker purple. I laid it on the light purple paper I wanted for the background but it was just too blah. The solution was to use a snowflake stamp set inked with VersaMark over the entire piece. I did not emboss it. I just let it dry so it leaves a subtle impression like a water mark. The sentiment, which I straightened, started out silver but I ran a purple alcohol marker over it to change the colour to match the card.
This nutcracker had those blue spots so I used some blue designer paper from a 6” paper pad for the background. The large snowflake was die cut and then cut in half and tucked in behind the focal image. One smaller one was punched and added to the photo. The greeting is a gold peel-off.
This one just had
to be on green with a gold edge added with the same gold Bic pen. The sentiment
was die cut twice out of gold cardstock; glued together and then glued onto the
photo.
There you have it; four quick and easy cards but still very attractive…at least I think so. Hope the recipients do!
That’s all for another cold Monday, December 16, 2019.
Cheers
Violet
