Another Monday! Another cold day starting out with snow! We have been spoiled by our way above normal temperatures for January but those days are behind us now - cold, snowy days are here. (insert big sigh here)
Well doing some dusting this morning I decided to take a photo of a vase I made in ceramic class about 40 years ago. I only kept a few things I made and the rest were either given away as gifts or broken. There is a story with this vase so I thought I would share it.
The flowers on the vase are three dimensional. The vases were just out of the mold and had not in the kiln so they were very fragile. We had to hold them our laps and use a pick to carefully lift each petal. We were to do one side, lift the vase and turn it upside down so we could do the other side of the flower. So, we were all sitting there picking out the petals and then everyone started gently lifting up their vases and turning them around - except me. I just switched the tool to my left hand to do the other side. Have you ever been in a group of people and all of a sudden its quiet and you don’t know why? Well, that’s what happened to me. All of a sudden it got quiet and I looked up and everyone, including the teacher, was staring at me. What? Why? The teacher said, “You can’t use use your left hand to do that if you are right handed. You will poke a hole in the vase.” Me, laughing, as I said, “It makes no difference to me which hand I use.” and I kept right on using my left hand. They couldn’t believe I could do it but I did.
So that’s my ambidextrous story…. well at least one of them and a vase instead of a card today.
Cheers
Violet
