Mojo Monday Birthday Card

Two postings today because yesterday was so busy with buying the new washer and dryer - and taking the wet clothes to the laundry mat to finish them - yuck. Glad I don't have to do that every week. Anyway, this card is for the Mojo Monday challenge which is also due tonight. They gave us a sketch. This is the first card I made:

The only thing that I changed was I replaced the plain strips with candles. I don't really know why but when I saw the sketch candles jumped into my mind and I had to go with it. I die cut the candles with a Cuttlebug die and added some glitter to the flame part. The label came in a paper pack and I just trace around it on pink cardstock and then cut it out leaving about 1/8" border. There is blue in all the background papers and the label so I went with a blue ribbon and bow.
I decided it needed something along the bottom so I added some peel-and-stick wavy lines. It's okay but not one of my favorites so I made another one...not exactly like the sketch though.

Here is the second one I made:
The background paper is one of my home-made or remade ones that I ran thru the Cuttlebug in an embossing folder.  Then I went over the embossed areas with some deep pink Distress Ink and all it did was shine up the embossed parts. Not what I expected but I liked it so it was okay.I had that lovely pink polka dot ribbon but it is very stiff and hard to make a bow out of so I used it in place of strips of cardstock. The label was stamped in purple, then the edges inked in hot pink and is attached with dimensional glue dots. The flowers were from the dollar store. I buy bunches of them and rip off the flowers and throw the stems away. The pink one was white as well and I just sprayed some ink on it to make it pink. The button also came from the dollar store. If you live where there is a Top Dollar store look in the craft section for small plastic zippered pouches of buttons. I bought four of them for $2.00 each and they are full of buttons in various sizes and colours. Good value for sure. Joe happened to see this card as I set it up to photograph and he said "That's a nice card". Well that was nice! He has good taste - after all, he married me didn't he? LOL!!!
