A Windy Friday and a Card

Another Friday, another windy day. We decided to go for a walk along Mud Creek this morning, have lunch out, run some errands and get groceries. Well, the walk turned out to be half as long as usual because the wind was so fierce it was not a pleasant walk at all. So after half and hour we called it done! The temperature was in the high 40’s if you were in a sheltered, sunny spot but if not, that wind was packing a cool punch!

Today would have been my mother’s 96th birthday. Unfortunately she died 42 years ago at the young age of 54 from breast cancer – and did so because when she reported to her doctor that something was wrong with her left breast he didn’t even examine her. He said she’d had 7 children so she should expect changes. Moron. So, this is a two sided warning – go get a mammogram and do your self-exam as well but more importantly, be your own advocate. Mom admitted, when it was too late, that she thought something was wrong but didn’t want to hurt her doctor’s feelings by insisting on an examination or seeing someone else! Insist on it! No one knows your own body like you do so if you feel something is not right, fight for what you need. End of lecture, on with the post.

This week I made time to make a card for the Stamping Bella challenge. I’ve working on a scrapbook layout and making a purse, which turned out to be more complicated than I thought it would be, but I really wanted to enter the challenge. Here’s my entry.

This week she presented us with a sketch. I coloured up the stamp, Ramona, with Prismacolor pencils and blended a bit with gamsol, and cut around it – just to be different. I wanted the cherry very bright red so I went over it with a Tombow marker. Rectangles were cut with Spellbinder’s Create-A-Card dies using paper from the stash. The horizontal strip is from the same paper as the light panel and it is edged with a brown fancy scallop. I found these in some papers I either bought at the thrift store or my friend gifted me (she quit card making and handed me a huge box of paper) so I do not know what die or punch was used. It was one long strip with flowers punched out as well so I just cut off the flower part, cut the strip the same size as the  pink strip, and taped it on the back. The background paper was run through the Big Shot with a Provo Craft happy birthday embossing folder and then I ran brown ink over the embossed areas. The sketch called for 4 embellishments in the top left corner. I like things in uneven numbers but I followed the sketch and glued on some buttons. This should be a nice card for a little girl’s birthday.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Cheers

Violet
