Weather’s still cold; sidewalks are still slippery; Joe’s still
got his cold so not much to report. I was thinking of walking to the post
office after lunch (about half hour walk) but decided against it and I’m glad I
did as the sidewalks are still covered with packed down snow and then a layer
of ice most of the way there. They are pretty bare around where we live because
most of us shovel the sidewalks as well as the driveways, but some people
obviously do not. Besides, I started quilting another quilt yesterday and
wanted to get back to it.
We had some bananas that ripened a lot quicker than we thought
they would (we like them on the green side) so I made some banana muffins and
added about half a cup of chopped strawberries too – delicious! Try it next
time you make muffins!
Today’s card is another Christmas card – I’m way behind but
trying to get some made each week. This week I’m entering the card in the
following challenges:
I decided to focus on the Merry Monday challenge which was to
make a card using traditional colours…not my favourite as I like the blue and
silver or gold and black combinations better, but decided to follow the
challenge anyway.
The background was included with the new embossing folders I
picked up at the thrift store last week and I liked the green colour of it (it
doesn’t look as green in the photo for some reason but oh well, trust me, it’s
green) so I ran a white ink pad over the top to hi-lite the snowflakes and
circles. The poinsettia was sitting in my folder of embellishments that I cut
off old Christmas cards and never used and I decided this would be a good time
to use it. I ran a red Sharpie pen around the edges to hide the white bits and
set it aside as I pondered what to do next. I tried several different ribbons
and none of them looked good with the very shiny poinsettia….then I spotted
some foil tape that was left over from gift wrapping presents. Perfect match! I
taped the card to make it look like a present and then added the poinsettia on
strips of dimensional glue dots. The tag was cut from a Cuttlebug die and a
VersaMark pen was rubbed unevenly along the edges and then embossed with red
glitter embossing powder. The sentiment and stars are peel-offs and the tag is
attached with a gold peel-off strip. Once the card was glued to the card base
then yellow Stickles was added to the centre of the flower. It turned out to be
a very glittery card but I don’t mind it.
That’s all for a Friday. Have a wonderful weekend everyone. I
may post again tomorrow, so don’t go too far.
Cheers
Violet
