I’ve been missing in action for the last week or so simply because we have had very hot weather here and we are out and about enjoying it and I haven’t spent much time on the computer or even watching TV. Any time I was inside I was busy trying to get the Halloween cards finished (I had 16 to make) and at the same time trying to finish a quilt….and then my sewing machine locked itself up. This was our Canadian thanksgiving so I have to wait until tomorrow to call to see if it can be repaired.
I did get the cards finished and here is one of them.
I decided to follow some advice from Vicky Papaioannou who is a wonderful mixed media artist and card maker. Here is her blog: Clips-n-Cuts | She also has a YouTube channel.
Anyway, she likes to spray her backgrounds with various spray inks, like Distress ones. She also suggested that we use what we have on hand which is pretty much what I do so it made sense to me to use the various collection of various makes of spray inks I have. I have no idea how many are on this what started out as a piece of white cardstock but I did leave the centre lighter and the edges are darker. It may be hard to see in the photo but the edges are in the purple and blue tones and then I sponged Black Distress inks around the edges - likely a bit too far in but it is what it is. The edges were distressed with a distress tool and I made a couple of rips in the paper and then inked the black too. Black ink was then sponged along the distressed edges.
Then the skull was stamped on a piece of masking paper. Then it was stamped on the card; covered with mask and stamped again twice. The cracks stamped across the top look like lightning bolts some times and like tree branches sometimes and look like cracks sometimes. It depends on how often I stamp them and how close together they are. Whatever they are, I just like to use them as an extra element. As a final touch I stamped the RIP in white ink. Once I was happy with it it was mounted on a green card base.
That’s all for a beautiful Monday, October 11, 2021.
Cheers
Violet
