Today is Remembrance Day here in Canada where we honour those who died in any and all wars. Their bravery and sacrifice is why we are free. God bless them all.
However, life goes on so I’m posting two Christmas cards today. Two, because they are very similar to each other and I will explain why they are different.
Both images were stamped first with VersaMark ink and then black pigment ink and then heat embossed using clear embossing folder. I stamped another one but forgot to add the black ink so I used black embossing powder - what a mistake. Now I remember why I quit using it. It was thick and junky and looked horrible. So, I ended up with just two images stamped and ready to colour.
These were coloured with pencils and blended with gamsol. The backgrounds were die cut using a Spellbinder’s die and it was left in the die while blue ink was sponged on which leaves that nice white border. Then white diluted paint was splattered on the top….the birds were covered so none got on them….and then very small little silver dots left over from peel-offs were glued on to look like more snow. The sentiment is a peel-off. It was then mounted on the pretty blue and then on to a lighter blue that was run through an embossing folder which was then glued to the card base.
The second card....
So I started doing the same process for this card but somehow the blue ink ended being a huge splotch instead of being blended gently….. operator failure for sure. I think I forgot to blot the sponge after inking and it made a huge mess. So I looked at if for awhile trying to figure out how to save it - nope, there was nothing I could do. I was not about to junk this beautiful image though, so I decided to hand cut around it and then glued it to the blue piece….and I quite liked it. I stamped snowflakes and the sentiment in blue ink on the bottom but glued tiny fabric snowflakes to the top and then added clear gems to the centres. It was glued to another piece of embossed light blue paper and then onto a card base. Now I’m not sure which card I like the best.
That’s all for a mild, but now rainy, Thursday, November 11, 2021.
Cheers
Violet
