A Lighthouse Card

Well last night was an interesting…and scary night! Once again we were under a tornado watch/warning….it kept changing from one to the other. Luckily one did not form enough to touch down but it was very windy and lots of lightning. Windsor, which is about an hour’s drive west of here, has more lightning strikes per year than any other city in Canada. Of course, that means more thunderstorms forming because only one type of cloud, the Cumulonimbus, can produce thunderstorms that can then produce a tornado. We are on the fringe of a tornado alley here but they usually go to the north or south of us because of the Great Lakes. That ends your science lesson for today! Ha! I used to run a weather station in a small airport up north and had to learn all about clouds and other weather info; record and send it to Toronto airport….this was over 40 years ago so no computers back then….we had some other terrible machine to use.

Today’s card is a sympathy card that would be appropriate to send to a man….they don’t like flowers and fluff but still appreciate a card.

I started out with plain white cardstock and sponged several colours of ink to form the sky….likely mostly Distress Inks because I like how the blend…. I splattered some water on it to get those lovely blotches of light colour. The lighthouse, sand, birds and reeds are part of the Stampin’ Up High Tide stamp set….love this set! I believe the lighthouse was stamped with Stampin’ Up Crumb Cake and then Early Espresso. The sand was a stamped several times with various colours of brown ink….this is why I love my Tim Holtz stamp positioner. The birds were also stamped with Early Espresso. I sponged brown ink around the edges. Then it was glued to a Kraft card base. I think the sentiment is from a Close to My Heart stamp set.

That’s all for a lovely Wednesday, September 26, 2018….can you believe September is almost over? I can’t either.

Cheers

Violet
